Subspecies of plagioclase can be identified based on refractive index. Large amounts of volcanic glass are contained in the upper part of the group, and zeolite, which is an alteration product of volcanic glass, is contained in the lower part. Thus, the Mizunami Group contains large amounts of volcanic glass.
