A plot of C-H dissociation probabilities (proton yields) measured with various polarization angles for solid formic acid (HCOOH) samples Four resonances were observed in the excitation-energy dependencies of the proton yields. The second peak (2) (red-colored) has been assigned to sigma*C-H orbital excitation. If you tune photon energy to this energy and irradiate the sample, molecules whose C-H bond is aligned parallel to the E vector should be activated. Therefore the present results indicate that the C-H bonds perpendicular to the surface show much greater dissociation probabilities than the parallel ones. |
