6.2 Designning a Nuclear Ship

Fig. 6-2
Nuclear Ship Engineering Simulation System

Features of Simulation System
1. To perform the thorough simulation of the ocean ~ ship's motion ~ reactor plant.
2. Console consisting of CRT's with touch-panels and dynamic keyboards.
3. Simultaneous display of experimental data obtained from "MUTSU," etc., and the simulation results in the same time frame.
4. Optional speed of simulation depending on user's need.

The Engineering Simulation System was developed using the operational data of "MUTSU." This system was used for preview analysis of her experimental voyage. Now, the system is used for improvement of new applications and the estimation of performance of a marine nuclear reactor, which is being designed, and to study advanced automation. The advanced automation will be applicable for both nuclear and conventionally powered ships, because crew size will be held to a minimum in future ships. The data obtained from the experimental voyage will be stored in the system, analysed, and used for all related studies.
